India-Pakistan Peace Day 2010


*July 27 –August 14: India - Peace Caravan Amn ke Badhte Qadam 

To promote peace between India and Pakistan, the Caravan will leave on July 27 evening, from the Gateway of India in Mumbai. After night halts at Vapi, Valsad, Navsari, Surat, Ahmedabad, Anand, Godhra, Dahod, Ratlam, Sawai Madhopur, Gangapur City, Bayana, Bharatpur, Delhi, Sonepat, Panipat, Karnal, Ludhiana, and Jalandhar, it will arrive at Amritsar on the night of August 12. On the night of August 14, the caravan will merge with the candle lighting programme at Attari border, which is traditionally organized every year by Sh. Kuldip Nayar and friends. A similar candle lighting event will take place on the Wagah side of border by Pakistani friends. Depending on granting of visas some Indian delegates will participate in a convention on 15th August in Lahore. Before that Pakistani delegates will participate in the convention organized by Kuldip Nayar sahab and friends on 13th August in Amritsar. *August 6-14: Pakistan - Peace caravan Aman Ke Badhte Qadam

In Pakistan, "Aman Ke Badhte Qadam" peace caravan will leave Karachi on August 6, 2010, a Pakistan Peace Coalition (PPC) spokesman said. The Pakistan peace caravan will visit shrines of Sufi saints, Shah Enayat Shaheed in Jhoke Sharif, Thatta, Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai, Makhdoom Nooh in Hala, Sachal sarmast in Daraza, Khairpur, praying for peace. The caravan will enter Punjab after four days of traveling to Thatta, Mirpurkhas, Hyderabad, Hala, Khairpur, Sukkur…and should reach Lahore on August 13…

*Oct 2-11: Communal Harmony Yatra, Ayodhya to Wardha

To spread awareness about the evils of communalism and message of peace, civil society organizations are launching  Sadbhavana yatra, from 2nd October to 11th October 2010, covering three states, from Ayodhya to Wardha. Fraser Valley Peace Council (FVPC) is presenting two events in joint collaboration with South Asian Network of Secularism and Democracy (SANSAD) and South Asian Film Education Society (SAFES).  

Discovery of Independence: South Asia at 63, a talk by Dr. Hassan Gardezi, 2 - 5 p.m., on August 14, in Newton Library Hall, 13795-70th Avenue, Surrey, B.C.

Screening of ‘THE SKY BELOW’, a Best Film Debut Award winner documentary on the Partition of India and Pakistan by Sarah Singh, 2 - 5 p.m., August15, at Surrey Campus (SUR 2600), Simon Fraser University, 13450 102 Avenue, Surrey, B.C. Sarah Singh will introduce the film and conduct a discussion with the audience.
